Management and administration

Steve Holloway
Principal, Co-Owner
Steve Holloway is the co-founder of Modern English. Of UK origin, he has over 30 years of International Teaching Experience. After graduating from Cardiff University, Steve taught in Cambridge, before travelling to Japan, where he spent two years teaching before finally coming to Malaysia. After four years in the International Islamic University, Steve became Coordinator of the Business Training Unit of the British Council. As well as being the principal of Modern English, he is also an internationally-recognised Technical Writing Consultant for the Oil & Gas industry, conducting regular programmes throughout Asia and the US.
Angie Yeo Siew Tiang
Co-Owner
Angie is the co-founder and Centre Manager of Modern English. Born and bred in Melaka, Angie ran her own business for ten years before deciding to specialise in English language teaching. She obtained her Certificate in TESOL from the London Teacher Training College and was centre manager of UK English Language Centre in Petaling Jaya for two years. She started Modern English in Puchong in 2011 and has been central to it becoming one of the largest independent English centres in Malaysia.
Puan Azizah
Administrative Executive
Pn Azizah is our go-to person for all our regulatory needs. With over 30 years’ experience in one of the world’s largest multinational companies, she brings a wealth of admin experience to Modern English.

 

Your teachers

Mike Holloway
Teacher
Mike was born in Newport, in the UK. On completing his degree in Computing at the University of Newport, South Wales, he attained his CELTA at the British Council in Kuala Lumpur. Since joining Modern English in 2012, he has taught to all ages and levels. He has also spent one year as a volunteer teacher at an Orang Asli home in Kuala Lumpur. In addition to the teaching, he has worked on the production and editing of Oil and Gas technical standards.
Chris Holloway
Teacher
Chris has a come to teaching via a route which has included several years at sea as an officer cadet, followed by a degree in Sports Coaching. It was during this course that he realised sharing knowledge with students of all ages was his true calling. Since joining Modern English in 2016, he has taught all ages and abilities but he has a special affinity for students struggling with their English.
Lisa Nichols
Teacher
Lisa is from London, where she has been in education, as a teacher and a counsellor, for more than 10 years. Her experience as an IELTS specialist in the UK, Nepal and India brings even more skills to our IELTS preparation team. In her third year in Malaysia, Lisa teaches across all levels and ages, and has found another niche in teaching upper primary students.
MALAYSIAN TEACHERS
At Modern English, one of our core values is to bring the best possible English teachers to your community, whether they are native speakers or Malaysians. To us, the person is more important than their nationality. Currently, we have two highly qualified Malaysians teaching on a part-time basis: Zalikha and Zach. We hope to expand this group over the next year or so, while at the same time offering full-time positions to those that want to commit to Modern English.
